About Me.

I am from the Munich area, working in Munich and living outside the city in rural farmland. I spent more than ten years abroad in places where mountains are hard to come by. As a young person, my attitude towards the mountains had been somewhat ambivalent and it took their absence to make me realise how much they meant to me. Upon my return in 2013, I tried to make up for the “lost” years and since then have visited the Alps as often as I can afford.

I always brought a camera, in part to communicate the scenery to my friends from afar. Over time, this translated into earlier and earlier hikes, until it became the norm for me to be at the summit before sunrise to catch the best light.

While the scenery was often stunning, I was never quite satisfied with the photographic results and kept searching for what I really wanted to do with my imagery. A few years ago, I stumbled across the website of Scottish photographer Bruce Percy and was very taken with his style and vision. For a few years, this style and vision became my primary guide for how I interpreted the alpine landscape. Since then, I have returned to a more traditional landscape style, but I think the artistic interpretation as practised by Bruce Percy still remains my highest photographic ambition.

Inspirations.

I am deeply indebted to many other photographers without whom none of the images on this site would have been possible. Chief among them are Bruce Percy and Michael Kenna. Others include, in no particular order, Paul Wakefield, Julian Calverly, Brian Kosoff, Jonathan Critchley, Hans Strand, Christian Fletcher and many more.

Gear.

In my view, gear isn’t that important, so long as it works for the purpose. But for those interested, this is what I currently use:
